2022 is a year to mark CityU School of Law’s 35th Anniversary. The School cherishes the auspicious Jade Anniversary occasion to showcase its proud history, and most importantly, to reconnect with our distinguished alumni. Throughout the year, a rich array of activities is offered both online and offline, including the CityU Law 35th Anniversary Public Lecture Series, the 26th Goff Arbitration Lecture, and ALSA International Conferences. The 35th Anniversary Gala Dinner will be held in September 2022 to mark the finale of the year-long celebrations. Come celebrate the SLW Jade Anniversary with us!
The first public lecture for the School of Law 35th Anniversary on “An Offensive Defence: China's Anti-Sanctions Law and Its Implications for Hong Kong” delivered by Professor WANG Jiangyu was held on 23 September 2021. The lecture critically examined the legal tools provided in the law and the legislative intent behind them, as well as the impact of the law on Hong Kong’s status as an international business and financial hub.
Asian Law Schools Association (ALSA), inaugurated in January 2021, comprises 22 founding members that are leading Asian law schools from 10 jurisdictions, aiming to enhance excellence in legal education and scholarship by providing a platform for collaboration and mutual support, while upholding core values such as academic freedom, rule of law, diversity, fairness and justice.
In order to reinforce the identity of ALSA, students from ALSA founding member institutions were invited to participate in the ALSA Logo Design Competition which has closed on 31 July 2021. After careful consideration, the judging panel comprising the board of governors has shortlisted the winning entries. The grand award goes to the logo containing three main parts: the globe (with Asia being highlighted in the centre) on top, the scales in between, and the words “Asian Law Schools Association”, forming Lady Justice. The logo illustrates that the good and ethical law practiced in Asia does credit to institutions cultivating great lawyers in Asia, and represents that “fair and equal administration of the law, without corruption, favor, greed, or prejudice” is being taught in the schools of this association. The official ALSA logo has been adopted based on the above concept.
